How Soon Can You Take a Pregnancy Test For Accurate Results?

How soon can you take a pregnancy test

Planning a pregnancy means couples stick to some form of schedule. Often times, the expectant parents get too excited and test too early only to have their hopes for a baby dashed. So how soon can you take a pregnancy test? One may wish to perform a pregnancy test from the first day of the woman’s missed period. Having a regular cycle will help determine the exact date of the missed period. For those who have an irregular cycle, the best way to determine how soon can you take a pregnancy test is by counting twenty-one days after the last schedule of unprotected sexual intercourse. There are so many pregnancy test kits available in the market today that offer a very high reliability rate. To properly conduct a pregnancy test, one must understand the basics involved.

It is the pregnancy hormone that is being tested. The hCG or the human chorionic gonadotropin is secreted by the woman’s body at the early stage of pregnancy because it is responsible for several functions in the development of the fetus. It stimulates the production of estrogen and progesterone. The woman’s body begins to produce hCG around two weeks after conception. Remember that pregnancy tests vary in their sensitivity, how soon can you take a pregnancy test can be as early as like four days before the due date of your period or around seven days after you have already conceived. The latest tests can measure even very little amounts of hCG, estimated at around 5 mlU.

Many couples are excited and cannot wait for the ideal period of fourteen days past the period of ovulation. The hCG levels is expected to double every two to three days following the date of implantation. On the average pregnancy test kits will be able to detect hCG at a level of 25-75 mlU. Couples have the option of getting a urine pregnancy test or a pregnancy blood test. Both tests detect the hCG or the pregnancy hormone, but the blood pregnancy test can detect the hCG earlier compared to that of the urine test. Doing a blood test requires the woman to visit a doctor unlike for the urine test that can be easily done at the convenience of your own home. The home pregnancy test is cheaper too compared to the blood test. In terms of accuracy, both exhibit a fair amount of it. If done right a home pregnancy test works just as well as a blood test.
