Shoulder Blade Pain: Causes and Remedies
Shoulder blade pain should not be ignored. It gives people discomfort hindering them to go on with their daily activities and makes them lose their focus on their work because of the pain. It is a constantly nagging pain that should not be ignored and treated immediately. The intensity of the pain can go from mild and acute to severe and chronic. No matter how much shoulder blade pain you are experiencing, it must be consulted immediately with a doctor or you can try home remedies at home until you are able to find time to consult with your family physician.
There are many causes to shoulder blade pain and it can even be symptom for an even more life-threatening diseases. One of the most common and major causes of pain on your shoulders is overstretching the natural structure and components of your shoulders. Our shoulder blade is composed of tendons, ligaments and muscles localized in one are of the shoulder that we use often for working our hands. Overstretching its components may in part be due to overworking of the shoulders such as too much hand work or too much weight put over our shoulders, incorrect posture such as those with scoliosis or other posture problems or it can be due to an injury of the shoulder blade. Another cause and reason why some people experience pain on their shoulder could be due to age. As we age, the connective tissues located in our shoulder blade also ages and tends to degenerate naturally causing pain when we try to move our shoulders. Arthritis is a result of the connective tissues degenerating causing inflammation of our joints when they are moved too much resulting in shoulder blade pain. The pain can also be a symptom of an underlying disease such as heart failure and gallbladder failure. Other forms of cancer may also manifest such symptom such as lung cancer and that of the esophagus. These are just some of the causes of pain on your shoulders thus it is best that you consult immediately with a doctor to know the real cause of your pain and be treated properly immediately.
If you can’t find the time to see a doctor immediately there are some things you can do to lessen the pain and relieve your shoulders. First is to cut down on activities that put additional weight on your shoulders. You need to rest your shoulders once in a while so stopping activities that causes pain can help you alleviate the pain for a while. Also, do not load your bag with too much stuff or heavy stuff as this can also give you shoulder blade pain. Bring only what is essential and the things you need for the day. Ice massages or ice packs on your shoulder can help you alleviate the pain as well especially if there is already an inflammation on your shoulders because of overstretching or arthritis. This will cool down the inflammation for a while. Apply the ice packs three times a day for 15 minutes to help you relieve of pain.
